Pacemaker and Device Clinic

The Pacemaker/Defibrillator Clinic is a specialized outpatient clinic designed for the care of patients with implanted rhythm-management devices. These devices include pacemakers to prevent slow heart rates; defibrillators to treat rapid life-threatening rhythm disturbances; and reveal monitors, which record heart rhythm irregularities.

The clinic is staffed by a Cardiac Electrophysiologist who specializes in the treatment and care of patients who have an implantable rhythm device.

Device Clinic goals

  • Look after patients’ health associated with their device
  • Provide ongoing follow-up of the device
  • Provide patient and family education about the device

What to Expect

At each clinic visit you will see a doctor.

The doctor will interrogate your device to obtain information on how it is functioning. This information will be reviewed and any necessary changes will be made.

The clinic staff will be available to answer any questions you or your family might have about your particular device or how it is functioning.

In addition, a complete evaluation is carried out in order to optimize the device settings to any changes in the patient’s clinical condition and to maximize device functionality.

Our team educates each patient on its function, what it’s supposed to do for you, and when it may not be functioning properly.
